Styx Offers Free Download of New Song “Difference In The World”
by admin on Apr.30, 2010, under News
It’s been a few years since Styx released any new material, but right now the band is offering fans a free download of a new track entitled “Difference In The World” exclusively at www.styxworld.com.
Fans who are members of the site or mailing list have already received an email with a link to the download, but if you’re not a site member, you can visit http://store.styxworld.com/mailinglist/ to join the mailing list, and then you’ll receive an email with the download link to the new track.
With lead vocals by Tommy Shaw, “Difference In The World” is, in some ways, more reminiscent of a traditional Styx song than much of the band’s latter day output. The song starts off with an acoustic verse and Shaw’s voice alone before building into the layered harmonies that are Styx’ trademark. There’s a heavily processed guitar solo that sounds like it might have been at home on a Beatles record, and Lawrence Gowan’s organ provides a subtle bed track that also lends somewhat of a hip retro element to the proceedings.
Styx fans write to me all the time asking when (or if) the band is going to release new material, so now that this song is out there, it poses more questions. Is this the first taste of a possible new Styx album? Will the band perform this song live this summer? If they do, will Lawrence Gowan keep his pants on?
Stay tuned to this space . . .
