At the GRAMMYs this weekend, Judas Priest finally won after being nominated five times.  The band took home the trophy for Best Metal Performance for their song “Dissident Aggressor” off of their 2009 album A Touch of Evil – Live.  Singer Rob Halford told us they were shocked by just the nomination.

“Complete surprise to me, well it was to all of us.  Priest has been trundling along, this big metal monster, this giant has been making metal as the world knows for well over three decades now and you’re not aware of everything that’s going on around you.  It’s certainly the case that more recently, these wonderful opportunities have been coming to the band in different types of awards and forms of recognition.”

Halford went on to say why winning for “Dissident Aggressor” is so significant.

“To get it for a song from this type of display is tremendous and the song itself, ‘Dissident Aggressor,’ which I think came from Sin After Sin.  We wrote that song in the ‘70s.  It’s an old song, but there again you see, how long has Priest been saying that our music has stood the test of time.”
