Steve Morse Band Releases ‘Out Standing In Their Field’
by admin on Nov.17, 2009, under News
PRESS RELEASE:
New York, NY (October 13, 2009)—For a musician as talented as guitar maestro Steve Morse, there are no boundaries between genres; there is only his unique sound. On November 17, The Steve Morse Band will release a new studio album Out Standing In Their Field via Eagle Rock Entertainment. This will also be released digitally on October 13.
Morse, who got his start in the Dixie Dregs in the 1970s, has enjoyed a fruitful career, earning himself a reputation as a “musician’s musician.” He’s spent the last sixteen years shredding for the legendary Deep Purple, in addition to fronting his own band. The release of Out Standing In Their Field will be the 12th album to date for The Steve Morse Band.
On this entirely instrumental album, Morse joins forces with bassist Dave LaRue and drummer Van Romaine to pound out un-tethered creativity. A multi-faceted blend of Morse’s influences, Out Standing In Their Field is a diverse sound spectrum, twisting together elements of rock, country, jazz, funk and classical. Unencumbered by lyrics, Morse’s guitar acts as a wailing, exploring siren, channeling emotion and raw power through the language of riffs. In addition to the ten brand new tracks boasted on Out Standing In Their Field, the band threw in an extra treat: a live recording of their song “Rising Power.” This bonus track invokes the goosebump-inducing power the Steve Morse Band conjures on stage.
Embarking on a North American tour with this new release, Steve Morse and his band have earned the right to be considered Out Standing In Their Field.

Tickets are $20 for the Seaport Inn show, and expected to be right around that mark for subsequent shows as well.
“We know with the way the economy is, it’s hard to find the cash to go out to rock shows,” he said. “We want to keep it affordable, so that people can still get that good feeling from helping others without hurting themselves financially.”

American Idol and its English counterpart, The X Factor, are both wildly popular, but one person who doesn’t like them is Sting. The singer described The X Factor to the London Evening Standard saying, “It’s a preposterous show, and you have judges who have no recognizable talent apart from self-promotion.” Sting added, “Basically, I was looking at televised karaoke where they conform to stereotypes. It’s a soap opera which has nothing to do with music.” According to People magazine, Simon Cowell, who is a judge on the show, called Sting’s comments “pompous” then invited him on the series. Sting hasn’t returned Cowell’s calls.
Whatever Happened To Queen Bassist John Deacon?

This news is brought to you by VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner
We often hear about Brian May and Roger Taylor from Queen, but there isn’t much talk of original bassist John Deacon. It turns out, Deacon is somewhat reclusive. England’s The Sun wrote about the 58-year-old rocker, who decided to shun the Freddie Mercury-less Queen. Friends of Deacon’s attribute his privacy to never recovering from Freddie’s 1991 death and also because John wants to spend time with his wife and six kids. Read more at TheSun.co.uk.

Lita Ford Warms Up To Runaways Movie
by admin on Nov.17, 2009, under News
FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKREVISITED.COM:
This news is brought to you by VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner
There is a new movie being made about The Runaways and up until recently, Lita Ford wasn’t too thrilled with it. The rocker, who was part of the band, didn’t want anything to do with the movie and was nervous that producers were using her name. Here’s what she told us about the flick.
“They asked to buy the rights to my life story for a ridiculously low amount and I thought it was a slap in the face and we rejected it and just let them go about their way. If there’s anything in the script we don’t like, we’ll pull it out.”
However, according to a press release, Lita has changed her attitude after meeting Scout Taylor Compton, the young actress who portrays Ford in the flick. Scout saw Lita perform with Queensryche recently and met her backstage. Since the encounter, Lita feels “so much better” about the film noting, “[Scout] has a heart and soul… She also hawks a mean loogey and really is a lot like me.” The Runaways film, which also stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, is due out next year.
