Peter Gabriel Confirms Track List For New Album

Peter Gabriel has confirmed the track list for his upcoming covers album, Scratch My Back.  David Bowie, Paul Simon, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, The Magnetic Fields, Radiohead and Neil Young are just a few of musicians behind the 12 tracks on the set.  Gabriel will also do versions of tunes by Randy Newman, Bon Iver, Arcade Fire and Regina Spektor.  NME.com reports that the effort comes out on January 25th and fans should expect plenty of collaborations on the album.

Bad Company’s Simon Kirke Working On Solo Album

Bad Company’s Simon Kirke is working on a solo CD.  According to a press release, Kirke plays drums on album and is working with New York musicians.  The basic tracks are complete and the record should be done by the end of the year.  No release date has been set yet.

Sting To Perform With Philadelphia Orchestra

On January 30th, Sting will join the Philadelphia Orchestra to perform some of the greatest hits from both his solo career and his time with the Police.  The concert, which will be held at Philly’s Academy of Music, will celebrate the venue’s 153rd anniversary and raise money for its restoration.  For ticket info, head to PhilOrch.org/AcademyOfMusic

Anvil Documentary Nominated For Award

Anvil! The Story of Anvil has been nominated for an International Documentary Association Award.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary about the Canadian metal rockers is up against four other films including Food, Inc. and Diary of a Times Square Thief.  The nomination alone bodes well for the Anvil flick’s chances to be up for an Oscar this year.  The IDA trophies will be given out in Los Angeles on December 4th.

Alice Cooper Talks About New Album

Alice Cooper is thinking about his next album and he talked about it with TheQuietus.com. Cooper wouldn’t say much but what he did reveal is that there will be a new character on the record, a villain that Alice will play.  The shock rocker explained, “He’s a bit of a phantom but what he does allows the music to do a lot of things.  It’ll be pretty interesting.”  The as-yet-untitled album comes out next year

U2 Will Return To North America in 2010

In June, U2 will bring their spaceship stage back to North America for the second leg of their 360 Tour.  If you already saw the band perform live, expect these shows to be even better. Drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. told us that the guys are always striving for more. 
(Cut #1) “We’ve always been at opposite ends of cool. And its not that I think we ever want to get to that place but there is always, and there remains a sense within U2, that there is something more for us to do, that we haven’t quite cracked it yet.”

The 2010 concerts kick off on June 6th in Anaheim, California.  To find out if the band is playing near you, head to U2.com.

Lars Ulrich and Dee Snider In New Film

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider will both make cameo appearances in the upcoming film Get Him to the Greek.  The rockers will play themselves in the Jonah Hill and Russell Brand comedy, which is a spin-off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  The movie is about a rocker and the 23-year-old assistant who has to get him to a concert.  It comes out in June.

Scorpions Will Embark On Worldwide Tour in 2010

The Scorpions will be pretty busy over the next few years.  That’s because the German rockers have announced plans to embark on a two-year long world tour starting in 2010.  According to Blabbermouth.net, the group will hold an international press conference in January to discuss the details of the trek, which will include shows in North and South America, Asia and Europe.  The ScORpions are currently working on new music.

The Who To Play Super Bowl Halftime?

The Who are rumored to be playing the halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl.  Sports Illustrated is reporting that Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and company are set to take the stage at the Big Dance on February 7th in Miami.  However, the NFL has not confirmed the booking saying only, “When we have something to announce, we’ll announce it.”

Gary Moore To Headline Planet Rock’s Christmas Gig

Legendary guitarist, Gary Moore is headlining Planet Rock’s Xmas gig in London at O2 Islington Academy on December 2nd 2009.

Arguably one of the finest British artists of all time, Gary Moore’s extensive career has included stints in Thin Lizzy and Skid Row whilst his solo material has inspired musicians all over the globe.  Fresh from touring the UK, the blues guitarist will be playing a unique set exclusively for Planet Rock.

Sharing the bill is Justin Hawkins’ latest project Hot Leg. The former Darkness front man and his band will be bringing their high energy ‘man rock’ to the stage - spandex and guy-liner at the ready!

Kicking it all off are new rockers Hovercraft Pirates.
