‘More Than This - The Story Of’ Roxy Music DVD Drops October 20th

by admin on Oct.07, 2009, under News

PRESS RELEASE:

New York, NY (October 7, 2009)—Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the release of the More Than This – The Story Of Roxy Music DVD on October 20, 2009 [MSRP $14.98]. With a running time at over 90 minutes, this DVD is fully endorsed and authorized by all members of Roxy Music, with unique footage of the band in the studio with Brian Eno for the first time since 1973.

More Than This – The Story Of… recounts the story of Roxy Music through new interviews with band members Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Paul Thompson, Brian Eno and Eddie Jobson plus many of their contemporaries. Originally broadcast by the BBC in late 2008, the DVD contains nearly half an hour of additional unseen material plus three previously unreleased live tracks from Dock Rock (filmed in London in July 2006): “Both Ends Burning,” “Editions Of You,” and “Do The Strand.”

Roxy Music’s unique blend of avant-garde rock music and high style set the tone for the whole glam rock era. They were much imitated but never equaled. The DVD captures their essence and progression as artists. Every step of their journey is touched upon, from their early years and the classic seventies albums to their re-emergence with a much smoother style in the early eighties, the band’s break up and then their hugely successful reunion in the 21st century.

Foreigner Has No End In Sight For Hit Records

by admin on Oct.07, 2009, under News

PRESS RELEASE:

LEGENDARY BAND CELEBRATES TWO ABLUMS IN THE BILLBOARD TOP 200 SIMULTANEOUSLY!

NEW RELEASE CAN’T SLOW DOWN ENTERS AT NUMBER 29;

2008 RELEASE NO END IN SIGHT ALSO ON CHARTS

Foreigner, one of the world’s most popular and enduring rock bands, celebrates having two albums in the Billboard Top 200 chart simultaneously.  The band’s new release, Can’t Slow Down, entered the upper atmosphere of the chart at a very impressive number 29, their highest entry since Inside Information made its number 15 chart debut in 1987.  Their 2008 album release, No End In Sight: The Very Best of Foreigner, re-entered the chart at number 147. This unique achievement puts Foreigner in a class of its own as the only classic rock artist in recent history to have two albums, both featuring newly recorded tracks, in the Top 200 simultaneously. This week, the first single taken from the album, “When It Comes To Love”, debuted on the Radio & Records Adult Contemporary Top Thirty chart at number 28.

Can’t Slow Down, a new three disc collection, includes a CD album of all new music, a CD album of the band’s original hit recordings, and a DVD of the band in concert and beyond.  Can’t Slow Down is available from Rhino Entertainment, exclusively through Walmart, for $12.

This marks the first time in 17 years that the legendary band has released an album of all new material.  Twelve tracks on the new album are produced by Mick Jones and Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith and Buckcherry), with celebrated Grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse) contributing the Jones penned “Fool For You Anyway.”  The title track “Can’t Slow Down,” was written by Jones, Kelly Hansen and Frederiksen as a tribute to NASCAR in celebration of Foreigner’s appearance at the Samsung 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway earlier this year.

Foreigner’s catalogue sales have also responded to the renewed interest in the band. For the third straight week, the bands total sales have exceeded those of The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, The Who, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Def Leppard, Boston, and most of their Classic Rock peers. “The audience is finally waking up to the fact that the songs they have been listening to on the radio all their lives, were actually recorded by Foreigner” said manager Phil Carson.

“I had no idea at the beginning what Foreigner would become,” said founding member Jones.  “Back when we started the band, I was at a crossroads in my life, whether I was going to carry on in music or get a real job.  So thirty years later, I think I made the right decision by following my true passion which is making music.”

Foreigner’s brand of a thrilling mix of blustery blues and impeccably crafted pop continues to captivate generation after generation of music fans.  Founded in 1976, Foreigner has sold more than 70 million albums and has experienced multi-platinum success around the world.

Guns N’ Roses Denies Copyright Infringement

by admin on Oct.07, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKMAGAZINE.COM:

Guns N’ Roses have issued a statement, via manager Irving Azoff, refuting allegations of copyright infringement.

The band are being sued by Independiente Records and Domino Recordings, who allege that the song Riad N’ The Bedouins (from Chinese Democracy) borrowed heavily from two songs by German electronic artist Ulrich Schnauss.

Azoff says in response: “The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track.

“The snippets of ‘ambient noise’ in question were provided by a member of the album’s production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately.

“Artists these days can’t read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore are unfortunately vulnerable to claims like this one.

“While the band resents the implication that they would ever use another artist’s work improperly and are assessing possible counterclaims, they are confident this situation will be satisfactorily resolved.”

See if you can spot any similarities yourself. Listen to the two songs in question Ulrich Schnauss’ Wherever You Are here and A Strangely Isolated Place here.

King Crimson Members Reunite For One Night Only

by admin on Oct.07, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKMAGAZINE.COM:

Prog history was made last night when seven members of the early incarnations of the legendary King Crimson reunited, albeit in a non-performing capacity, at Air Studios in North London for a playback of the band’s recently re-issued In The Court Of The Crimson King, Lizard and Red albums in 5.1 surround sound.Robert Fripp, Michael Giles, Pete Sinfield, Bill Bruford, Mel Collins, David Cross and John Wetton were all in attendance, as was Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson, who, along with Fripp, had undertaken the task of re-working the material.

Fripp himself said a few words before introducing Wilson, who gave a short speech detailing how he’d gone about undertaking such a mammoth task, before the assembled throng was treated to a selection of tracks in quite stunning new sound.

In The Court Of The Crimson King, Lizard and Red are all available through the Panegryic label, with the remainder of the band’s back catalogue being re-issued throughout 2010.

The three current re-issues are reviewed in the latest issue of Classic Rock Presents Prog, on sale now (cover pictured below). The re-issues come with extensive sleeve notes from Prog’s own Sid Smith.

by admin on Oct.07, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKREVISITED.COM:

This news is brought to you by VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner

Yesterday, Kiss released their first studio album in 11 years, Sonic Boom.  So are the rockers nervous at all about how critics will receive the new music?  According to bassist Gene Simmons, what the critics have to say doesn’t even matter to them.

“It’s not whether or not a critic says, ‘I like this or I like that,’ it’s whether or not people take it and make it a part of their lives and Kiss has been very fortunate because it’s put out more Gold records than any American band in recorded history.”

You can make Kiss a part of your life by picking up Sonic Boom now.  You can also see the band on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight at 12:05 AM on ABC
