Tony Carey On Rainbow Reunion: “I tell you right now, it will never happen.”
by admin on Sep.30, 2009, under News
FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKMAGAZINE.COM:
Former Rainbow keyboard player Tony Carey has told Classic Rock that he can never see a reunion of the band.
Carey, who played on the classic Rising and On Stage albums, believes the time has now passed for this to happen:
“I’d love the chance to get on stage again with Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie Dio and Jimmy Bain. We could have Bonny Rondinelli or Greg Smith on drums, replacing Cozy Powell. But I tell you right now, it will never happen.
“Ronnie needs the aggravation of working again with Ritchie like he needs a new asshole. And Ritchie is so into his renaissance music, with Blackmore’s Night, that I doubt he even thinks about getting Rainbow back together. So, anyone who is holding out the hope of a reunion? Forget it.”
Carey, who co-founded Over The Rainbow with vocalist Joe Lynn Turner and Rondinell, is currently talking to vocalist Doogie White (who was in the last Rainbow line-up in 1994) about a new project, and is also working on a new solo album.
“I had to quit Over The Rainbow, because I was seriously ill earlier in the year – to the point where I was only given a 10 per cent chance of living – and just cannot commit to their touring schedule (Paul Morris has taken over). But hopefully, this new band with Doogie will happen, and I can get back to playing the loudest Hammond organ in the world!”

Kevin Cronin Loves Playing Live
by admin on Sep.30, 2009, under News
FROM WWW.CLASSIROCKREVISITED.COM:
This news is brought to you by VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner
There is reciprocity to playing live music. The audience feeds of the tunes being played and respond with cheers, which then cause the musicians to play better to make sure the crowd is happy. For REO Speedwagon singer Kevin Cronin, few things can top that feeling, as he told us.
“I feel like our audience gives me a degree of pleasure that is…that very few people get to experience it. So, then that just makes me wanna, wanna give it back to them.”
Kevin and the rest of REO Speedwagon will get to experience that pleasure tomorrow when they play the Central Washington State Fair. For all the band’s dates, head to Speedwagon.com.

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKREVISITED.COM:
This news is brought to you by VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner
In a recent interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com, Alice in Chains new singer William DuVall talks about what he brings to the band that differs from the late Layne Staley. DuVall says since he is also a guitar player the band has become a two guitar band when it wants to be, which leads to a different kind of jamming. DuVall goes on further to talk about Staley saying, “I’m not Layne, I’m not somebody who would try to be Layne. All of those things to me are unthinkable to even attempt — I’m too busy just being me and that’s enough, that’s enough to contend with.” Alice in Chains new album Black Gives Way to Blue is out now.

New York, NY (September 28, 2009)—On October 13, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release The Six Wives Of Henry VIII on DVD and Blu-ray via Eagle Vision and CD through Eagle Records [MSRP $14.98 for DVD, $13.98 for CD, and 24.98 for Blu-ray]. This eagerly anticipated release for Rick Wakeman fans is his first solo release on Blu-ray.
Rick Wakeman’s The Six Wives Of Henry VIII is one of the landmark albums of the seventies, a critical and commercial success that has sold in excess of 15 million copies worldwide. In May 2009, Wakeman finally achieved his long held dream of performing the entire album live at Hampton Court Palace. It was the first time the whole album had ever been performed in concert and included the Henry VIII track “Defender Of The Faith,” that had to be cut from the original album for space reasons, plus new opening and closing pieces. The two spectacular sell out concerts were a never to be repeated event, which give those not able to attend the ability to experience this epic performance.
The Six Wives Of Henry VIII release features extended live performances of Wakeman’s most popular album with the English Rock Ensemble accompanied by the Orchestra Europa and the English Chamber Choir with Brian Blessed as narrator. The release offers two hours of great entertainment, as well as a behind the scenes feature with Rick, and also offers additional new tracks premiered at the concert. The DVD and Blu-ray versions come packaged in a deluxe slipcase with a reproduction of the concert program.

Timothy B. Schmit To Release ‘Expando’ October 20th
by admin on Sep.30, 2009, under News
Eagles’ Bassist’s First Solo Album in Eight Years due out October 20 on Lost Highway Records
* * *
Timothy B. Schmit is set to release Expando, his first solo album in eight years, on October 20, 2009 on Lost Highway Records. Written and produced by Schmit, Expando features some of Schmit’s most autobiographical and musically diverse solo work to date.
“`Expando’ implies growing and expanding and I feel like that’s what the music on this album represents for me,” said Timothy B. Schmit. “I guess the word is a bit mysterious, but I’m trying out all these different things I’ve always wanted to do.”
Schmit recorded the album entirely at his home studio near Los Angeles and hand-picked the musicians who worked with him, including Keb’ Mo’, Graham Nash, Kid Rock, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, The Band’s Garth Hudson, Van Dyke Parks, Dwight Yoakam, The Heartbreakers’ Benmont Tench, and Timothy’s son, Ben. Hank Linderman, who recorded Schmit’s 2001 Feed The Fire, also engineered and performs on Expando.
EXPANDO Track Listing:
1. ONE MORE MILE (Featuring Keb’ Mo’ on Slide Dobro)
2. PARACHUTE (Featuring Kenny Wayne Shepherd on Lead Guitar, Benmont Tench on Organ, and Graham Nash on Background Vocals)
3. FRIDAY NIGHT (Featuring Garth Hudson on Organ and Van Dyke Parks on Accordion)
4. ELLA JEAN
5. WHITE BOY FROM SACRAMENTO (Featuring Benmont Tench on Electric Piano and Ben Schmit on Drums & Lead Guitar)
6. COMPASSION
7. DOWNTIME (Featuring Kid Rock and Dwight Yoakam on Background Vocals)
8. MELANCHOLY
9. I DON’T MIND (Featuring Van Dyke Parks on Accordion)
10. SECULAR PRAISE (Featuring Van Dyke Parks on Accordion, Benmont Tench on Organ, and The Blind Boys Of Alabama on Background Vocals)
11. A GOOD DAY (Featuring Donna De Lory on Background Vocals)
“I feel like after all these years, I’m finally tapping into all that experience,” Schmit went on to say. “This time, I decided to do it all on my own. I come from a folk and early rock background, so that’s how I started every one of these songs - on acoustic guitar.”
Timothy B. Schmit is one America’s most prolific musicians, with a solo recording career that has produced four albums prior to Expando – Playin’ It Cool (1984), Timothy B. (1987), Tell Me The Truth (1990) and Feed The Fire (2001). He has appeared on a multitude of other artists’ recordings including Steely Dan, Vince Gill, Dan Fogelberg, Clint Black, Crosby Stills & Nash, Bob Seger, Jimmy Buffett, Ringo Starr, Elton John, and Warren Zevon, as well as his contributions to Poco and the Eagles. Timothy has won three GRAMMY Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Eagles.
