John Fogerty Rides Again

by admin on Aug.28, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKREVISITED.COM:

This news comes from VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner

Next week, fans can pick up their copy of John Fogerty’s latest album, The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again.  After Creedence Clearwater Revival broke up in 1972, John released his first solo album under the name The Blue Ridge Rangers, playing all the instruments on the effort.  On Monday, John will be back with the follow-up.  As for how it’s received, the singer explained he is just happy to make music.

“I don’t sit and analyze you know, I really have to say, I’m somewhat naive, I’m just sort of blissfully ignorant of the world out there you know, I’m a songwriter, musician, and I mean later you make a record, put it out and then different things, it takes different courses, and you kind of watch the little rivers flow this way and that and try to understand but you know, I’m not really sure why this or that happens.”

John will be promoting The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again with an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman Thursday and one on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on the 8th.  He’ll also play a free show at New York’s South Street Seaport on Wednesday.  If that weren’t enough, you can now hear “When Will I Be Loved,” the first single on the album.  It features Bruce Springsteen and you can check it out at JohnFogerty.com

As a small child, Kimberley often played chords on her guitar or created melodies on her flute. She sang along with lyrics spanning everything from Country to Rock, Classical to Pop which helps explain why today Kimberley doesn’t just write one style. Her older brother was a huge Boston fan, and overnight so was Kimberley. Darrin made sure Kimberley knew all the right words to “Smokin”, “More than a Feeling,” “Longtime,” “Peace of Mind” and “Party”. That was just the beginning.
At 19 she started to sing for different radio jingles . Her credits include Modesto, Toyota, Wrangler Jeans, Pontiac and Ford, among others. Kimberley received two different scholarships to attended college, one for music, the other basketball. She also trained in Radio/TV announcing. As a Freshman in college she wanted to go on a tour singing across Europe. There was only one scholarship being offered and she won it. She sang “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This was Kimberley’s first time out of the United States.
She toured Europe where she impressed a new group of fans. In 1997, Kimberley moved to Nashville, TN and she immediately got busy. She competed and won a spot on the Nashville New Faces World tour, which, took her to Germany for the second time. There, she made many friends and fans. She’s returned to Germany to perform many times over the years.
Kimberley was noticed by Tom Scholz and Gary Pihl of the band Boston, when they came to a club performance looking for a new drummer. Tom Scholz, Boston’s founder was impressed with Kimberley’s singing and asked her if she could play bass. A couple of months later on January 1st, 2001, Kimberley was on stage at the Fiesta Bowl in front of 80,000 people and millions of TV viewers. This was her debut with the band and her first time playing bass guitar professionally. Tom Scholz liked her song-writing so much that he included a song she wrote called “With You” on the Boston album “Corporate America.” “With You” will be released again on Kimberley’s new CD “Can’t a Girl Change Her Mind.” Four tours later with Boston have made her one of the fan favorites and a stand out example for women who Rock. Kimberley Dahme has always been and will always be a singer/songwriter/producer.
Kimberley’s solo music is so pleasant and has a country rock feel as well as that roots rock vibe running through it. Her voice is simply stunning and is so radio friendly that you will be hooked from the very first chord!

Paul Stanley On Casablanca’s 35th Anniversary

by admin on Aug.28, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKMAGAZINE.COM:

Casablanca Records, the label whose roster included Kiss, Angel, Parliament, Donna Summer and The Village People, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Come inside to hear what Paul Stanley has to say about the legendary company…

Casablanca was formed in 1973 by Neil Bogart, but didn’t release its first full-length album until Kiss’s debut on February 18, 1974.

Speaking exclusively to Classic Rock, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley reflected on the years Kiss spent as probably the most important band on Casablanca’s roster.

Classic Rock: It’s Casablanca’s 35th birthday this year. Do you mourn the demise of the iconic record company?

Paul Stanley: “I mourn the demise of iconic record companies because they nurtured bands and nurtured artists. When record companies were run by people who loved music they stood behind the acts. It wasn’t unusual for a record company to expect two or three albums to come out before artist would break. That was the dedication they had, because they loved the music. The days of that are over and long gone.

“Casablanca, I must say, was a double-edged sword. Neil Bogart’s philosophy was… well, let me put it this way, he didn’t care if it ruined your career as long as you got a hit single as soon as possible – and I wasn’t part of that school. Neil was P.T. Barnum, which worked to a certain extent, but it also tended to hurt whatever credibility you might have, because of the way your records were being sold.

“But again, the great record companies stood behind their acts and nowadays you’re just a number. If you don’t sell enough of your first album, you’re out of the door. That’s a shame, and that coupled with music piracy makes it pretty difficult for anybody who wants to make a career in music these days.”

Kiss’s new album, Sonic Boom, is coming out via Loud & Proud/Roadrunner in the UK and Europe. The release date is October 5.

Stanley said: “Success comes from a winning team, and Roadrunner is the perfect partner for Kiss in terms of understanding what this album is and also having a great track record of success.”

* Larry Harris, a former business partner of Neil Bogart’s and Casblanca’s former Vice President, has written a 300-page hardcover book titled And Party Every Day: The Inside Story Of Casablanca Records. The book will be published on October 1. More details here.

Joe Perry Says Aerosmith Is On Hiatus

by admin on Aug.28, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKMAGAZINE.COM:

Guitarist Joe Perry has denied Aerosmith are breaking up in the wake of frontman Steven Tyler’s fall from the stage and rumoured return to his bad ol’ habits. But Perry did reveal the band are “on hiatus”.
Tyler sustained a broken shoulder as a result from his tumble at an Aerosmith gig in South Dakota. As a result the ’Smiths’ US tour with ZZ Top was cancelled.

Speaking to Providence, Rhode Island radio station WHJY Perry stated:

“The band is on hiatus. I think that for the last couple of tours, Steven’s [Tyler, vocals] been through a bunch of different physical things. He’s always felt like we’ve gone out a little bit too early every time and that kind of thing… I really don’t know for sure.

“We just want him to get completely healthy — from head to toe, whatever ailment it is — and then we’ll talk about getting back together.

“So the band is by no means breaking up; we are just taking some time off. And we’re gonna take a good bit of time off so that everybody can re-evaluate our original mandate, which was to go out there and entertain the fans, put the fans [at] No.1 — which I always do, and I constantly will, with the [Joe Perry] Project — but with Aerosmith, we’re all there on that. And make a great studio record and go out and get on the road and tour until we’re finished.”

Blabbermouth has more from the interview plus a stream of the entire exchange here.

Ian Anderson, known throughout the world of rock music as the flute and voice behind the legendary Jethro Tull will be touring this October and November in the United States. Ian is inviting a number of guests from the jazz, classical, rock, and world music world to share the stage for this eclectic acoustic tour.

Widely recognized as the man who introduced the flute to rock music, Ian Anderson remains the crowned exponent of the popular and rock genres of flute playing. In addition to classical flute, he also plays ethnic flutes and whistles together with acoustic guitar and the mandolin family of instruments, providing the acoustic textures, which are an integral part of most of the Jethro Tull repertoire.

When not touring with Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson appears more and more frequently in solo concerts with a variety of line-ups from the music world, including orchestral.

For the 2009 Ian Anderson Plays The Acoustic Jethro Tull, his band includes jazz artists: bassist David Goodier (Jethro Tull) and Mark Mondasir (John McLaughlin). Classical musician John O’Hara, who also plays keyboards and accordion with Jethro Tull will be joining the line up, as will German Rock and Flamenco guitarist Florian Opahle. Ian will have a range of other guests on this tour.

As a solo artist, Ian Anderson has recorded four diverse solo albums in his career: Walk into Light (1983), the flute instrumental Divinities (1995) which reached number one on the Billboard Classical chart, and the more recently recorded acoustic collections of songs, The Secret Language of Birds (2000), and Rupi’s Dance (2003).

In 2006, he was awarded a Doctorate in Literature from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, the Ivor Award for International Achievement in Music and, in the New Years Honours List 2008, an MBE for services to music. In 2008 he celebrated 40 years as a recording and performing musician.

Lita Ford On Island Living: “It’s not for everyone.”

by admin on Aug.26, 2009, under News

This news comes from VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner

In October, Lita Ford will release Wicked Wonderland, her first album in nearly 15 years.  During her absence from the music scene, the singer has been raising her kids with her husband on a relatively deserted island in the Caribbean.  While spending days at a home by a gorgeous beach might sound glamorous, Lita told us it isn’t easy living off the grid.

“It’s really not for everybody.  There’s a lot of nothing.  You have to learn how to do things without having things.  We didn’t watch a lot of TV, we didn’t have a phone except for my husband Jim, had his private cell phone.  We do have access to the Internet out there but you can’t just pick up the phone, order a pizza or call for FedEx to come pick up a package or anything like that.  It’s literally nothing.  There is literally nothing out there.”

These days, Lita is back, making the rounds promoting Wicked Wonderland.  The album doesn’t come out until October 6th but you can get a taste of it now on Ford’s MySpace page, MySpace.com/LitaFord

Bob Dylan’s Voice To Be Used For GPS System?

by admin on Aug.26, 2009, under News

FROM WWW.CLASSICROCKREVISITED.COM:

This news comes from VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner

Would you want to get directions from Bob Dylan?  Well soon, you might be doing just that.  The legendary singer told listeners of his Theme Time Radio Hour show that he’s in talks with some car companies about being the voice of their GPS system.  Dylan explained, “I think it would be good if you are looking for directions and hear my voice saying something like: ‘Left at the next street, no a right – you know what?  Just go straight.’”  Bob added, “I probably shouldn’t do it because whichever way I go I always end up at one place: Lonely Avenue.”  No word yet on if Dylan was being serious.

Joe Lynn Turner Says Ritchie Blackmore Tried To Ban Son From Using His Name

by admin on Aug.26, 2009, under News

Joe Lynn Turner has exclusively spoken to Classic Rock about Ritchie Blackmore’s reaction to Over The Rainbow, the band featuring Turner (vocals), Jurgen Blackmore (guitar), Greg Smith (bass), Paul Morris (keyboards) and Bobby Rondinelli (drums).

“At first Ritchie was fine about it all. Then certain people – two of them – who are very close to him started to put ideas into his head.

“Then Ritchie suddenly became very antagonistic. Things got so bad that he insisted Jurgen – his own son – couldn’t use the name ‘Blackmore’. Jurgen’s full name is Jurgen Richard Blackmore – it says so on his birth cerificate.

“So, he ended up sending a copy of that to Ritchie, to prove he had every right to the name. Thankfully, that’s all behind us now, and everything’s back on an even keel.”

Over The Rainbow hope to play some UK shows early in 2010.

“We are negotiating right now, and it looks good for late February/early March. We want everyone to realise this is a celebration of Rainbow’s heritage. We are not a covers band, nor a tribute band.

“With the exception of Jurgen – and he is Ritchie’s son – all of us were in Rainbow at one time or another.”

Classic Rock’s Geoff Barton saw Over The Rainbow play the Sweden Rock festival recently. In case you missed Geoff’s review, here’s his reaction:

We weren’t expecting much from Over The Rainbow but they were a revelation. OTR, of course, are comprised of ex-Rainbow members Joe Lynn Turner (vocals), Greg Smith (bass) and Bobby Rondinelli (drums). Tony Carey was strangely absent on keyboards, his place being taken by Paul Morris “from Mk IV Rainbow,” remarked Turner, with a knowing wink to the trainspotters in the crowd. (By our reckoning Morris didn’t join until Mk X, but we’ll that that pass.) On guitar, please welcome Ritchie’s Blackmore’s remarkably jovial German son, Jürgen.

Appearing on stage to a tape of the late Cozy Powell’s Dance With The Devil (a nice touch; Powell being the famed drummer on Rainbow Rising et al) Turner’s troops delivered the hits – Tarot Woman, Man On The Silver Mountain, Death Alley Driver, I Surrender, Can’t Happen Here et al – with unexpected style and panache, and with nary a whiff of naffness. At one point Blackmore grabbed the mic and exclaimed: “Zis is a fuckload of fun.” He wasn’t far wrong…
