Welcome To We Will Rock You!

Thanks for visiting the We Will Rock You rock music blog. This is where I hope we can all share our love of great rock music through news, updates, and most importantly my exclusive in-depth interviews with some of the world’s greatest rock artists.

My name is Sterling Whitaker. Some of you may already be familiar with me and my work. I’m a singer/songwriter/guitarist myself, a veteran of the progressive rock group Roots of Consciousness in the Nineties, and more recently one-half of an acoustic duo called Beggarz Opera. But if you have ever heard of me, chances are it’s because I’ve spent the last twenty-some years interviewing popular musicians for various regional and online publications. I am also the author of two books: Unsung Heroes of Rock Guitar in 2003, and 2007’s The Grand Delusion: The Unauthorized True Story of Styx, which was an Amazon bestseller and received glowing reviews in Classic Rock magazine, Goldmine, Record Collector, and many online media outlets. I have appeared as a guest on VH1, BBC Radio, and radio stations all over North America.

In my writing career I have gotten to interview (deep breath) members of Kansas (Rich Williams, Kerry Livgren), Styx (Tommy Shaw, Todd Sucherman, Glen Burtnik), Yes (Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin), Toto (Bobby Kimball), Gentle Giant (Gary Green), Kiss (Bruce Kulick), Heart (Howard Leese), Candlebox (Kevin Martin), Jefferson Starship (Craig Chaquico), King’s X (Ty Tabor), Jethro Tull (Martin Barre, Mick Abrahams), John Mellencamp band (Larry Crane), Mountain (Leslie West), Peter Frampton and many more.

I’m very happy to announce that my first interview for We Will Rock You will be with Queesnryche vocalist Geoff Tate in support of the band’s excellent new album American Soldier.  I interviewed Geoff once before around the time of Mindcrime at the Moore for Classic Rock Revisited, which got picked up and reprinted overseas in a magazine called In Rock. So I’m excited to see what he’s got to say about everything that’s happened since, both with Queensryche and the world at large.  Stay tuned, that should be coming right up!

You can also look forward to my upcoming interview with Todd Sucherman and Lawrence Gowan of Styx, and ex-Heart guitarist Howard Leese will be talking with me soon about his first-ever solo album. I’m trying to nail down a time to speak to legendary Yes/King Crimson/UK/Earthworks drummer Bill Bruford about his excellent autobiography, and a little bit further into the summer we’ll have former Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick and the return of Lita Ford. So keep stopping by, there’s going to be plenty of great in-depth interviews over the next little while.
